Group Classes

DanceFix Ballroom Latin Classes

Group classes are a good choice if you like to learn in a social environment.

Classes focus on a particular Style (e.g. Latin, Ballroom or Swing.)

They are held at the same time each week.

They include 45mins of structured teaching plus 10 minutes practice.

There are several Dances in each Style.

Each Term we offer 3 week short courses in one or more of the dances.

Each course focuses on a different set of moves from our syllabus.

We usually have 8-20 students in a class.

Do I need to bring a partner?

Generally, no, you can come solo & dance with other singles.

Bookings & pre-payment helps us ensure relatively even numbers of leaders & followers for the Term.

As a couple, do we have to change partners in class?

No. Only solo attendees are encouraged to change partners.

How do terms & classes work?

Each Term is 10 weeks long & includes 3 short courses & a social practice session.

Each course focuses on a specific dance for 3 weeks.

Classes are held at the same time each week.

They include 45mins of structured teaching plus 10 minutes practice.

There are 10 patterns in each level of our syllabus.

Each beginner course focuses on a random selection of 3-5 of these.

Students attend the same level as long as they need to feel comfortable with all 10 steps.

Which style should I try first?

If you like popular chart music try Ballroom Latin as these dances are very versatile & will suit a variety of music, venues & events (dances include Rhumba, Cha Cha, Mambo & Samba).

If you love South American music & want to attend specialised Latin Events  then Street Latin is for you (dances include Salsa, Merengue, Bachata & Zouk).

If you are looking for some active time out to wiggle, giggle & connect with a lovely group of solo women - try LatinFit Ladies.

What do I wear?

Cool casual to activewear.

Ideal footwear is flatish with slightly slippery soles (leather or suede are best). Old socks work too.

Students often recommend JJs House online if you want reasonable quality budget shoes.

We recommend Bloch or Capezio if you want to invest in professional shoes.

Do I have to book & pay in advance?

YES

There are LIMITED SPACES for couples, leaders & followers in each class.

BOOKINGS & PREPAYMENT ARE ESSENTIAL for ALL classes.

What if I miss a class?

ALL Passes EXPIRE at the end of the Term for which they are purchased.

NO CREDIT OR REFUNDS ARE OFFERED FOR MISSED CLASSES

However, you CAN attend another class IN THE SAME TERM if there is space.

If DanceFix cancels a class you will receive a credit (or refund if another suitable class isn't available).

How much does it cost?

Can I come casually?

Yes BUT you still need to make a booking (by 12noon on the day) to ensure we have spaces & relatively even numbers of leaders & followers.

Payment is cash only at the door - $20pp per class

Can I purchase a Term Pass ''on the night"?

No as we have limited spaces & need pre-payment to ensure a balance between leaders & followers.

I've danced before - what level am I?

Studios can have quite different notions of different levels, but as a guide:

Our Beginner classes would suit students with 0-20hrs training in any particular style.

Our Intermediate classes would suit students with 20-52hrs training in any particular style.

Our Advanced classes probably need at least 52hrs prior training in any particular style.

If unsure - ask one of our instructors to watch you dance for 30 seconds. They can advise which level you would probably feel most comfortable in.
